Made Me Question My Life Choices (and my pores)

Let’s get this out of the way: La Mer is not just a moisturiser. It’s a lifestyle choice. It’s the Beyoncé of face creams — famous, fabulous, and terrifyingly expensive. But I, a regular person with bills, curiosity, and dry patches, decided to try it. Because surely anything that costs more than my electricity bill must turn me into a dewy angel of youth, right? Well… let’s unpack. ⸻ 💰 Price: Brace yourself: £150–£275 for a tiny pot. That’s not skincare — that’s skincare with an attitude. You don’t buy La Mer; you commit to La Mer. If you’ve ever accidentally left the lid off, the emotional damage is real. ⸻ 🧴 Texture & Application: At first touch, it feels like dense whipped butter — thick, creamy, and rich. But here’s the trick: you’re supposed to “warm it between your fingers until it becomes translucent” before applying. Basically, this cream demands foreplay. Slap it on cold and it just sits there like an expensive, sulky teen. Warm it properly, and it melts into your skin like a luxury hug. ⸻ 🌿 Ingredients (a.k.a. The Legend): The star is the famous “Miracle Broth™” — a fermented sea kelp potion that’s said to transform skin. It sounds like a Harry Potter potion and costs like one too. To be fair, it does contain antioxidants, minerals, and skin-soothing ingredients. But there’s also petrolatum, mineral oil, and lime extract, which — depending on your skin type — can be either deeply hydrating or “hello, breakout town.” ⸻ ✅ What I Loved: • Mega hydration: Like, next-level softness. My skin felt baby-smooth, calm, and bouncy the next morning — especially during winter. • Soothing: If your skin’s stressed, over-exfoliated, or just had a bit too much drama, this cream is like a calming spa therapist whispering, “Shhh… I got you.” • Smells luxurious: Light, slightly floral, not overpowering — very ‘quiet luxury’. ⸻ ❌ What I Didn’t Love: • The price tag: I could have funded a mini getaway or paid my council tax. Instead, I moisturised. • Not magical for everyone: It’s deeply moisturising, yes, but for some people (especially oily/acne-prone skin), it can feel too heavy or even cause congestion. • You’re paying for the experience: The brand, the name, the packaging — it’s luxury marketing at its finest. But ingredients-wise? There are creams at a tenth of the price with similar effects. ⸻ ⚖️ Final Verdict: Is La Mer good? Yes. Is it £275 good? … That depends. If you have dry, mature, or sensitive skin and want to feel like an heiress every night — La Mer is a treat. It hydrates deeply, calms irritation, and gives your skin a rich, velvety finish. But if you’re expecting overnight miracles, or you’ve got acne-prone/oily skin — you might find yourself whispering, “I paid how much for this?”

Amazing cream

Fantastic cream. It has made my skin look fresher and more radiant. A small amount goes a long way and my skin feels softer. I use this quite a bit now as it’s something my skin appreciates. I will definitely buy it again and would recommend it if you haven’t actually tried it.

Feels luxurious

The is the original cream, it is thick and needs time to be absorbed. It feels really good and makes my skin look hydrated, plumped and radiant. Smells nice, not overpowering. Takes a little time to ensure it’s fully absorbed and spread an evenly as needed but it’s worth the time!
